France 2010: Sustainable Green Spaces Days

The autumn of 2010 was placed under the sign of sustainable development with four days turned over to the subject.
The first was on 14 October, when the Chaban-Delmas stadium in Bordeaux became the venue of the second Sustainable Development Days organised by the Conquest grouping (see Bordeaux press com). Six French companies were associated at the event: ACOMETIS, ETESIA, HUSSON-INTERNATIONAL, NOREMAT, PELLENC and TOTALGAZ.

The day was focussed on the planning and maintenance of rural and urban public space, and was followed by three others, more specialised in the issues relating to green spaces. The days brought together French companies (Etesia, Pellenc and Totalgaz) and local authorities to exchange views on the solutions of the different parties for reconciling the environment and business in the management of green spaces.
The events were prepared by the sending of personalised invitations to the managers of green spaces and maintenance in local governmental agencies and the main landscape designers of 40 french departements, or over 15,000 professionals.

Green Spaces Seminar: :

How can the Environment and the Economy be reconciled for the maintenance of Green Spaces?

The sustainable development seminars brought together professionals of green spaces to identify the possibilities and limits of the conservation trend. Identifying applicable and concrete good practices to reconcile the goodwill to protect the environment in a difficult business environment. The discussion brought together specialists from all the relevant areas: local governments and companies. Local government officials told of their experience in the concrete application of environmental guidelines and their consequences in terms of organisation, training, publicity, the purchase of equipment etc.
Equipment manufacturers presented their solutions to address those same guidelines and regulations applicable to equipment for differentiated management and the application of environmental or zero pest control plans. Our guests were able to discover the initiatives and achievements of Etesia, Pellenc and Totalgaz in the areas of eco-design, differentiated management, reduction of pollutant emissions and the use of renewable energy.

The contributors to the seminars were:

  • Mr Patrick Perin - National Archaeology Museum and National Domain of Saint Germain-en-Laye.

Action :

Non-stop demonstrations (9 am to 4 pm):
ETESIA, PELLENC and TOTALGAZ presented a wide range of equipment that covered all green space maintenance needs in an innovative, effective and environmentally-responsible manner. Our guests were given an opportunity to test perfectly designed machines that combine the requirements of professionals with those of conservation. Unique machinery in Europe running on LPG or electricity was at their disposal: ride-on mowers and garden tools.
They discovered equipment meeting the requirements of European standards in the area of CO2 emissions, noise levels, vibrations etc.
The machines and tools presented met the requirements in 2010 of French green spaces professionals, who need to reconcile the environment and economic considerations in the choice of equipment and take account of the total cost of ownership. "
